Surface integrity and color retention are essential for high-use residential and commercial furniture. This feature ensures that upholstery remains intact and visually consistent through years of heavy contact, providing a benchmark for high-performance functionality.

The Science of Fiber Resilience

In the textile industry, upholstery durability is the measure of a fabric's abrasion resistance and structural tenacity. Every time a person sits or shifts, microscopic friction occurs between their clothing and the furniture surface. High-performance fabrics are engineered with tightly twisted yarns and high-density weaves—often utilizing synthetic reinforcements like polyester or nylon—to prevent the mechanical breakdown of the fibers. This engineering ensures the fabric does not "bald" or develop yarn breakages, while advanced dyeing techniques ensure the pigments remain locked within the fiber even as the surface is agitated.

Validation through the High Performance Mark

By meeting rigorous technical benchmarks, your upholstery products become eligible for the Intertek High Performance (HP) Mark’s Durability.  For this mark, we apply either ASTM D 4966 or ISO 12947-2 Abrasion test, for 30,000 cycles. The fabric must show no yarn breakage and a colour change garde of 3.5 or above.

This mark serves as a ‘proof of performance’ by validating that your fabric meets the High-Performance Mark standards. You can display the mark on product tags, sample swatches, and digital catalogs to confidently signal to consumers and designers that your furniture's surface is verified for endurance.

Stand out in the furniture industry with the Intertek High-Performance Mark. Strengthen your functional claims and gain consumer trust with verification from the world- leading quality assurance organization.
